In the Fall of 1999, composer/pianist Erik Lindgren collaborated with flutist Leandra Botta on a series of concerts throughout New England. Not long after, Ms. Botta introduced Lindgren to her trio which includes Holly Harding on clarinet and Jessica Matchett on bassoon. The quartet clicked instantly and was featured performers at Zeitgeist Gallery in Cambridge, MA, Herring Run ArtsFest 2001, Bridgewater State University, and Julia Child’s “Farewell to Boston” bash. The ensemble’s magnetic and eclectic repertoire consists of quirky chamber works by Lindgren, Raymond Scott (best known for his soundtracks which accompany vintage Bugs Bunny and Warner Brothers cartoons), classic Ragtime, and novel arrangements of the Ventures’ “Out Of Limits,” Edgar Winter Band’s “Frankenstein,” and the “Theme From The Rocky & Bullwinkle Show.” Their acoustic sound is often supplemented with pre-recorded and acoustic percussion that gives a fresh approach to the ensemble’s classical chamber aesthetic. Erik Lindgren and the Sonare Wind Trio prove that art music can be both elevating and entertaining; this is one ensemble that can swing and sway, rock out, dazzle you with its virtuosity, and surprise you with a truly unique and hip musical vision. |
